“Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution … Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown” (Revelation 2:10, NIV).
The officers and district superintendents of the PAOC recently travelled to Spain for the World Assemblies of God Fellowship’s 5th World Missions Congress. There was great freedom as 1,300 delegates from 97 countries met and worshipped God together. However, Egypt was another story. While enjoying a season of freedom, the reality of persecution is a daily concern. Caution is exercised in public places, some meetings are held in secret, and when travelling to meet with the national church leaders, we used separate and scattered vehicles.
Egypt is just one of the many countries on the 2018 World Watch List where there is the persecution of Christians (visit www.opendoorsca.org). The scriptures are clear; those who believe in the message of the Messiah will face opposition and persecution. We should expect to share in Christ’s suffering and be persecuted for being his bride, his heirs.
How can your church care for those who are persecuted and silenced?
Remember those who suffer (Hebrews 13:3).
Pray for those who are persecuted and also for the persecutors (Matthew 5:44).

“…and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.”
The story of the Assemblies of God church in Cuba is a story of persecution and “receipt of a victor’s crown.” When communism came to Cuba, churches were closed, pastors imprisoned, believers persecuted, church buildings confiscated. Today, by God’s grace and mercy, there are thousands of thriving churches and they are embracing their missionary responsibilities. Workers are in training with a view to go to hard places where the gospel has not been preached. The victor’s crown awaits. (See our video story on Cuba.)
Join us on Sunday, November 4 and/or Sunday, November 11 for the International Day of Prayer and prayer for The Persecuted Church.
Throughout the month of November, we invite you to follow us on social media as we share stories, updates and prayer requests concerning our friends and fellow believers who are suffering as Christ suffered. Visit our website for more information, or search for PAOC Missions on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.
